Alternative solution - CT-art 582

Sometimes there are mates which takes one move more, but are equivalent forcing. You guessed it, CT-Art omits them.

We have here problem 582 of the CT-Art CD

Main solution

1.Ra8+ Kb7 2.Qb3+ Kxa8 3.Ra1+ Qa6 4.Rxa6# 1-0

Alternative but equivalent solution.

1.Ra8+ Kb7 2.Ra7+! Kxa7 (2...Kb6 3.Qxc7#);(2...Kb8 3.Qxc7#)3.Qxc7+ Ka8 (3...Ka6 4.Ra1#) 4.Ra1+ Qa6 5.Rxa6# 1-0

Update on the circles

Finished level 3 (7x)

93%,95%,95%,97%,97%,99%,99%

CTB is the same way: it wants the fastest solution. I think this can be useful, as it forces me to think accurately in very sharp situations, and has helped me in sharp situations where there aren't multiple good moves.

How's the level of difficulty compare in the first three levels of CT-Art?

Personally, I think that the first three levels are quite manageable. Not too fancy but more the idea of find the basic mate in more complicated situation. No real kingside attacks although there are some examples already in level 3. I remember that level 4 or 5 have much more kingside attacks. As you can expect the calculations become longer, and sometimes the exercises might be shorter but not so evident as you have the find the right move. Rather grasping the idea.
